Sir Richard Branson accompanied Dr. Guy Harvey to Little Cayman to dive at the Nassau Grouper Spawning Aggregation (SPAG). This SPAG is one of the last remaining spawning sites for Nassau Grouper, a critically endangered species. Researchers and volunteers from the Cayman Islands Department of Environment (DOE), and the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) have worked tirelessly since 2002 to understand, monitor and protect this important population.
Sir Richard found it an awe-inspiring experience and described the event as one of the World’s Great Wonders. Nassau Grouper migrate once a year, in vast numbers from reefs all around Little Cayman Island to join this aggregation.
