OCEANIC WHITETIP SHARKS ARE THREATENED

A rule was published on January 30th, 2018 that lists oceanic whitetip sharks as “Threatened” under the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Endangered Species Act. The ruling came in a response to a petition by Defenders of Wildlife which influenced NMFS to review the status of oceanic whitetips, including efforts being made to protect them and determined that the oceanic whitetip shark warrants being listed as threatened. GHRI contributes significant scientific data to the protection of oceanic whitetip sharks which you can access at www.ghritracking.org To learn more about the new ruling, visit https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/species/oceanic-whitetip-shark?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
